More than 200.000 people were killed in Jan. 12 devastating earthquake in Haiti, Haitian Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive said on February 3.

According to him, 300.000 people receive treatment in hospitals and medical centers. The disastrous earthquake collapsed 250.000 houses in the country, Bellerive stated.

Earlier local authorities put the toll at 170.000 dead.

As NEWS.am reported previously, January 12, 2010 a 7.0-magnitude earthquake hit Haiti followed by 5.9 and 5.5 aftershocks. Another powerful 6.1 magnitude tremor struck Haiti on January 20, 2010. According to recent data, the earthquake killed 200.000 people, wounded 250.000 and left 2.m bereft of home.

International rescue operation was organized to render humanitarian aid to Haiti. Rescuers from Philippines, U.S., China, Mexico, Cuba, Russia and other countries arrived in the country for disaster control.
