The negotiations on Karabakh conflict settlement are in deadlock. Neither the mediators, nor the conflicting parties can find the way out within near 6 months. Karen Ohandjanyan, the Coordinator of the Helsinki Initiative-92 Nagorno-Karabakh Committee considers.

According to NEWS.am Ohandjanyan stated that: “It is obvious that neither so-called Madrid Principles, nor the co-chairman approach to these principles can meet Armenian, Karabakh and Azerbaijani societies’ needs.”

Ohandjanyan supposes that the negotiations on recently published principles will progress, though not so intensively. And the moment of negotiators refusal of concerted principles will come.

“The negotiation process implicates a need to elaborate and detail the principles emerges. The insuperable contradictions will bring to rejection of Madrid principles and finding an alternative to conflict settlement,” he stated.

He also believes the talks’ format should be reconsidered and legitimate Karabakh officials involved in the negotiations. “Every initiative on Karabakh conflict settlement can be implemented with the Karabakh people being involved,” Karen Ogadjanyan concluded, adding that neglect of this aspect might maintain status quo at best.
