The RA Government is now working at a package of measures to relieve the consequences of the expected rise in gas prices, RA Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan stated on Feb. 24.
He said that the package will soon be submitted to the President and public. The measures are supposed to protect the socially vulnerable sections of the Armenian population. “The Government will find funds to compensate the socially vulnerable sections for the price rise,” the Premier said.
RA Minister of Finance Tigran Davtyan pointed out that the Government has always thoroughly considered economic entities’ applications for price rise and declined them if ungrounded. The Minister stressed that the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission will do its best to curb the price rise. Davtyan pointed out that applications for price rise are often well grounded as economic entities make huge investments in infrastructure development. “As to the gas price, the reason for this measure is a higher price for gas imported to Armenia,” the Minister said.
On February 26, the RA Public Services Regulatory Commission is to make a decision on a 40% rise in the gas price for the Armenian population, and a 17% rise for economic entities.
