President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan will participate in the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius in late November.

Armenian Ambassador to Lithuania Ara Ayvazyan informed Deputy Speaker of Seimas Gediminas Kirkilas about Yerevan’s intention, Lithuanian parliament’s press service said.

The diplomat assured that ahead of the Vilnius summit Armenia “will seek to strengthen the political dialogue with the EU, promoting better mutual understanding.” He noted that in Vilnius Armenia expects to sign a resolution securing “the progress made during the three years of negotiations on an Association Agreement with the EU.”

Following the talks that were held on September 3 in Moscow between Armenian and Russian Presidents Serzh Sargsyan and Vladimir Putin, Sargsyan had announced that Armenia plans to join the Customs Union and subsequently engage in the formation of the Eurasian Economic Union. And in response to this development, the European Union had stated that the signing of the Armenia-EU Association Agreement and the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area agreement is now doubtful.
