YEREVAN. – European Commission’s report on Turkey’s progress is an EU message to Ankara indicating the latter must display real interest in implementation of reforms, senior researcher at Institute of Oriental Studies believes.

Vahram Ter-Matevosyan said positive assessments prevail in the report.

“Over two years, Turkish authorities stated the EU is not the only choice, and they are taking real steps in direction of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, BRICS and Eurasian Economic Union,” he noted.

He stressed that Turkey is an important economic partner of the Union, but the recent repot shows that EU has no intention to shoulder responsibility for the deterioration of relations with Turkey.

On October 16 European Commission issued the regular progress report on Turkey.
