NATO plans further expansion. This is the stance of the newly appointed NATO Secretary General Fogh Rasmussen. He also considers establishing true partnership with Russia necessary.

Rasmussen believes Ukraine and Georgia – formerly most prospective candidates for NATO membership – are not yet ready for that. According to him, Kiev and Tbilisi have failed to meet a number of terms to become full NATO members. He re-affirmed NATO’s intention to render further assistance to Tbilisi and Kiev in integrating into NATO.
