Caucasus is the biggest issue for the BSR Highway project launch. Advisor at Russian Ministry of Transport Andrei Trubitsyn said despite Georgia’s ratification of the memorandum, there is no clearness in that segment of the highway and the works in Georgian part are not yet completed, as well as no offer from Georgia on solution was received.

“It is expected that the issue will be finally approved at the regular third HWBSR committee sitting in September,” Trubitsyn declared. RF Transport Ministry refrains from forecasting when the BSR will be completed, as it is not a mere construction, but the matter is in standardization of the roads around the sea to international standards. The average traffic volume on Russian segment makes approximately 10 tones, that is not sufficient for the full-fledged operation of 11.5 tones.

Russian governmental Committee passed a bill “On ratification of international memorandum ‘On development of Black Sea Ring Highway”. The 7140km capacity highway with minimum two-lane 2 traffic areas will be laid along the Black Sea coast. The highway will link Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Greece. Several branches from the highway will connect Armenia, Azerbaijan, Albania and Serbia to the highway, ‘Transport’ magazine reports.
