RA President Serzh Sargsyan being on a visit to China for the Expo 2010 Shanghai today attended the Technopark in Jiangsu province, a joint project of Singapore and China. The area of “Chinese Venice” is 288 km2 (larger than Yerevan’s administrative area). By volume of industrial and finished products export Suzhou comes second only to Shanghai.
Sargsyan also visited “Higer” Bus company, where was met by the Suzhou Deputy Mayor Zhou Weiqiang and Higer General Manager Wu Wenwen.
The Suzhou plant employs 4000 people, generating last year a profit of USD 730m.
A civil authorities’ representative stated that Suzhou is interested in the cooperation development with Armenia in educational, scientific and cultural fields. RA President and escorting officials toured around the Higer Bus Company and familiarized themselves with production process.
Thereafter, Armenian delegation headed to Suzhou Science & Culture Arts Centre (SSCAC) and had a look at the exhibits.
Besides, Sargsyan met with Mayor of Suzhou Yan Li. “I saw new opportunities of China, feeling myself like in the city of future. You almost made a reality the idea underlying the expo”, Sargsyan said adding that Armenia-China political ties are positive and the economic development rate should be kept in parallel with political ones.
