The task group formed to draft an energy security concept held its maiden meeting on May 6. The meeting was chaired by Secretary of the RA National Security Council Artur Baghdasaryan.
The press service of the RA National Security Council informed NEWS.am that Artur Baghdasaryan pointed out that Armenia’s short- and long-term energy self-sufficiency must be the priority of the energy security concept.
Energy development tasks are successfully carried out in Armenia now, and the country has all the necessary conditions for not only ensuring its energy self-sufficiency, but also for exporting energy, which is of paramount importance for the national economy, Baghdasaryan said. European experience shows that the field is developing in two directions there: strategic energy development programs and effective saving regimes in the energy generation sector. “We must be able to introduce an up-to-date energy security system in Armenia through studying the international experience,” Baghdasaryan said.
The Council decided to finish drafting the conceptual provisions of the document within a month and submit it for approval before this October.
