Global economy seems to have overcome the crisis, which has its impact on Armenia’s economy as well, the former CBA chairman Bagrat Asatryan told journalists on Friday.
7.2% economic growth has been registered in Armenia over the recent four months, which, however, can be accounted for by external factors rather than by the RA Government’s policy, he added. Among external factors Asatryan singled out a long-registered upsurge in prices for metals, in particular copper, in the international market. “The copper price has never been so high for such a long period of time. As to the 70% economic growth in Armenia, it is conditioned by growth in the mining industry,” Asatryan said, adding this is the reason only few people “are coining money,” while ordinary citizens do not feel the growth at all. “This passive upturn is unsafe and disturbing,” the former CBA chairman said.
Another external factor is, Asatryan said, the fact that the foreign transfers situation has improved in Armenia over recent three months – an increase against a 25% slump this January.
