“While reading Armenian press one can have an impression that we live in three different Armenias: one is prosperous, rapidly progressing; everything is bad in the second, and the only thing the people are concerned over is whether a group of Armenian National Congress activists will be able to gather in Liberty square,” the ARF Dashnaktsutyun member Vahan Hovhannisyan told a press briefing in the RA National Assembly.
“However, we live in the third Armenia with topical problems the people are concerned over. When trying to raise these questions, we face the Government’s indignation,” he said.
Hovhannisyan stressed that as soon as ARFD tried to raise the issue on gas rates in Parliament, the Government labeled the move as a political show. “Meanwhile, we merely wanted to know about how well the decision was justified. As the parliamentary majority thwarted our initiative stipulating a government report on the gas industry, we intend to put forward an initiative to set up an interim parliamentary commission. The commission will decide whether the decision to raise the gas rate was justified and was anyone interested in it,” ARFD member stated.
The head of Republican Party parliamentary group Galust Sahakyan pledged to hold hearings upon ARFD’s request this September.
