The solution to South Caucasian conflicts is possible only through mutual compromises. This should be done tête-a-tête, without any decisive actions of the world powers, the Georgian political scientist Mamuka Areshidze told NEWS.am.

No major breakthrough should be expected in the Karabakh peace process in the near future, as some of the mediator-countries pursue their own goals. Particularly, they seek to prevent the other major mediator from making progress.

The expert considers unlikely the normalization of Russia-Georgia relations in the near future.

“There are people among both Russian and Georgian authorities who just do not wish speak to each other. Presently, it is good for Russia and bad for Georgia,” Areshidze said.

He also stressed that the unresolved conflicts are a serious problem for the region, retarding its development for many years.
