The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is a real organization with considerable powers, influencing the regional situation, RF President Dmitry Medvedev told reporters on the margins of the CSTO informal summit.

He stressed that the CSTO is a deterrent to a number of negative processes in the area under its control. The CSTO has a positive impact on the conflicts in the area.

The Russian leader said the participants discussed the situation in Kyrgyzstan. “We should draw lessons from the situation in Kyrgyzstan. We discussed steps that would facilitate the formation of statehood in Kyrgyzstan. There are numerous problems there, but we will help. By December the CSTO will have drafted the amendments to its constituent documents to prevent situation similar to that in Kyrgyzstan,” Medvedev said.

The Russian leader said that the participants also addressed the creation of a new crisis reaction mechanism, especially in the context of Kyrgyz lessons. President Medvedev pointed out the need for enhancing the system’s efficiency and forming new institutes with greater powers.

“In a number of cases we have to be more efficient. We should analyze the experience of NATO, the EU and U.N.,” Medvedev said, NEWS.am correspondent reported.

The Russian President stressed that the Yerevan meeting was open, constructive and interesting. It lasted more than planned.
