In 2010 the Russian side will fully implement the investment program of South Caucasus Railways in Armenia, Premier Tigran Sargsyan said in an interview with the Armenian Public TV. According to him, the program on concession investment was not carried out within recent two years.

“The Russian side assumed responsibility to implement the whole investment program in 2010,” he said, adding that the Armenian citizens will immediately notice the changes, as carriages will be improved first . The state of railroads is also important, as it will affect the speed of cargo transportation, Sargsyan said. According to him, introduction of a new management system is significant as well, as it will improve management efficiency to exclude obstacles with ticket sales, he added.

South Caucasus Railways (SCR) has officially started business operations under a concession agreement to manage Armenian Railways. The concession agreement was concluded for 30 years, with a right of extension for another 20 years after the first 20 years of operation.
