Today the gas prices for the Azerbaijani population have been raised 2.12 times — from 47.2 manats (US $59) up to 100 manats (about US $125) for 1,000 cubic meters, RIA Novosti reports.

The Tariff Council of Azerbaijan made a relevant decision on the basis of an application by the Azerigas OJSC, which holds a monopoly on gas supply in the country. The decision is aimed to “prevent conspicuous consumption of natural gas and improve the quality of gas supply.” Another reason for the rise is that the present prices do not allow the company to cover its expenses.
