This year, the assets of the Central Bank of Armenia (CBA) have decreased by about 13%, and the liabilities by about 10%. According to the CBA bulletin for the 2nd quarter of 2010 released on September 15, by July 1, CBA assets had totaled 884bn AMD (about U.S. $2.4bn) against 1,000bn AMD (about U.S. $2.7bn) early this year. The liabilities decrease from 1,000bn AMD down to 903bn AMD (about U.S. $2.48bn).

Exchange fluctuations must have caused the decrease in CBA assets and liabilities. Since about 80% of CBA assets are in terms of foreign currency, the USD devaluation against the AMD this year caused a decrease in AMD assets. Only 23% of liabilities are in terms of foreign currency, which resulted in a smaller decrease.

The CBA’s AMD assets and liabilities decreased as well. Assets for sale decreased by 30bn AMD (about U.S. $82m).
