Turkey will side Azerbaijan, Turkish MP from ruling Justice and Development party Haluk Ipek told in an interview with the Azerbaijani Day.az news agency.

Commenting on the remarks that certain Turkish officials stand for speedy opening of the Armenian-Turkish border, MP said: “Turkey closed the border, as Armenia had occupied the territory of other country. Occupation is not over, that is why the border with Armenia will not be opened. That’s it.”

He also recalled Turkish Premier’s speech in the Parliament, indicating that “Ankara will not open the border with Armenia until the Armenian troops are withdrawn from the occupied territories.”

“However certain forces try to speculate about the issue pursuing a goal to damage the Azerbaijani-Turkish relations,” the MP said.

In 1993 Turkey closed the border with Armenia ensuring its security by military means. These steps were taken in token of support for Ankara’s ally, Azerbaijan, which has already faced a number of defeats in the Karabakh war.
