YEREVAN. – Mekhak Apresyan, Head of the Tourism Department at the Ministry of Economy of Armenia, stated at a press conference on Friday that a qualitatively similar vacation is cheaper in Armenia than in Georgia.

The official also did not agree with the journalists’ remarks that Armenians prefer to spend their vacation in Georgia, since it is cheaper.

“Domestic tourism is developing every year in Armenia,” said Apresyan. “This means Armenians prefer to rest also in Armenia.”

According to official data, a total of 1,192,000 tourists visited Armenia, whereas 2,280,000 tourists visited Georgia last year. As per Apresyan, this is due to the fact that Georgia has shores to the Black Sea.
