Signing of the Protocols on diplomatic relations establishment and development of relations by Armenia, Turkey and Switzerland does not indicate the opening of Armenian-Turkish border, Leader of Republican Party Galust Sahakyan told NEWS.am.

According to him, these Protocols were not aimed at accelerating the border’s unblocking but confirm the readiness of both countries to meet the arrangements reached in April, 2009. Sahakyan also said that Protocols’ signing can give an impetus for Serzh Sargsyan to go for a football match in October to Turkey.

Sezrh Sargsyan has repeatedly stated he would visit Turkey if Armenian-Turkish border is open or is in the threshold of opening. Late evening, August 31 Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministries issued a release under which “The Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Turkey have agreed to start their internal political consultations on two protocols which have been initiated in the course of their efforts under Swiss mediation.” “The political consultations will be completed within six weeks, following which the two Protocols will be signed and submitted to the respective Parliaments for the ratification on each side.”
