Delivering a speech at the Oct. 31 seminar on exchange of experience for representatives of the Armenian press, Arayik Vardanyan, head of Armenian Commerce and Industry chamber, touched upon opening of the Armenian-Turkish border.

According to him, transportation of one container from Armenia to Georgian port of Poti costs $1200, whereas transportation of the same cargo to the U.S. makes only $800. Thus, land transportation is 1.5 times more expensive than several thousand kilometers by sea. It leads to increase in prices of exported goods and reduction of their competitive capacity in the markets of importing countries.

Talking to NEWS.am, Vardanyan evaded the question on details of high transportation expenses in the Georgian territory, reiterated importance of seeking alternative ways of communication with other countries. In particular, cargo transportation through Turkey in case the Armenian-Turkish border is open.
