Eighteen of the 27 reservoirs are now operative at the Abovyan underground gas storage. Despite the economic crisis and restricted financing, the Armrusgasprom Company continues modernizing the Abovyan gas storage.

This October the company prepared one more underground gas storage for operation. The first storage has a capacity of 1.6 as much as the largest storage. The construction of such storages is most expensive and takes three and a half to four years.

The new underground storage has a capacity of 20 million cubic meters, which allows the company to bring the amount of stored gas up to 138-140 million cubic meters. Roland Adonts, Advisor to the ArmRusgasprom Director General, said that the construction got under way in 2006. The situation permitting, the company will be able to store up to 170-180 million cubic meters of gas, which will enhance Armenia’s energy security.
