Very few people know that, during the Armenian Genocide, the then King of Spain had tried to save the prominent Armenian intellectuals that were arrested in April 1915, and, to this end, he had sent a letter to the Ottoman government.

Akunq.net has publicized the Ottoman government’s false response letter, in which it is noted that, allegedly, the Armenian intellectuals had engaged in revolutionary activity, and, supposedly, the prominent Western Armenian intellectuals had fled to Russia.

As is known, however, shortly after this letter, which is dated July 1915, all these intellectuals were brutally murdered in the Ottoman Empire.

US-based Istanbul Armenian researcher Kevork Hagopyan has found the respective documents in the Ottoman Archives, translated them, and gladly made them available.
