The greatest security is the formation and development of economy, former Defense Minister of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, who tops the candidate list of Ohanyan-Raffi-Oskanian (ORO) alliance, said at a meeting with the voters of Gavar town Saturday.

“If a soldier wins by the weapon in his hand, the weapon in the hand of an Armenian man and all the nationalities living in the Republic of Armenia—Yazidis, Kurds, Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Georgians, Jews and Assyrians—is the economy. Without the development of economy we cannot form a strong rear for our army and our entire security system. And, generally, economy should be the basis of the development of any country,” Ohanyan said.

In his words, the power is not their key goal. “But our key goal is to give the power to the people. When people are at the wheel of power for many years, they stagnate. We must see the fast pace of our development only in power change. New power should come to govern in a new way,” he added.

According to the ex-minister, it is necessary to form a new culture “of making decisions, treating people and removing the barrier between the authorities and people, and, finally, in carrying out ideological work and being accountable to people.”
