YEREVAN. – The Introduction of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) standard in Armenia is in line with the open and transparent conduct which the government has adopted.  

Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan on Friday noted the aforementioned at an event devoted to Armenia’s becoming an EITI candidate member country, the press office of the government informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

In his words, mining is an important yet complex sector, where public expectations, business interests, and priorities for sustainable development of the state overlap.

Also, the PM thanked the international partners for their assistance in the work carried out toward Armenia’s becoming an EITI candidate member country, and for expressing willingness to continue assisting in this process.

In their remarks, US Ambassador Richard Mills, and British Ambassador Judith Margaret Farnworth congratulated Armenia on becoming an EITI candidate member country.

The international partners reaffirmed their readiness to continue assisting in introducing the EITI standard in Armenia.

The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative is a global standard to promote the open and accountable management of extractive resources. It seeks to address the key governance issues in the oil, gas, and mining sectors.
