YEREVAN. – President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan does not want to draw parallels between the CSTO and NATO.

“I would not compare or draw parallels between organizations, because each organization is pursuing its own goals, its tasks,” Sargsyan said in an interview with Mir TV.

Answering the question how he assesses the role of the CSTO and the role of the CSTO member states in the fight against the threat of ISIS, Sargsyan noted that “we could be more active in helping the Russian Armed Forces in accomplishing this great and important task.”

According to him, the Russian Federation makes a very large contribution to this struggle, and the CTSO member have to bear some part of this responsibility.

The Armenian leader noted it is important for his country because a large number of compatriots lived in the Middle East, and the ISIS is known for its particular cruelty against national minorities, especially against Christian ones.

“Of course, the faster the ISIS fighters are destroyed, the better for all of humanity. We are ready to continue providing humanitarian assistance to the Syrian people who suffered badly. I think that the efforts now being made by Russia and the Russian Armed Forces will be successful,” he emphasized.

At the same time, asked whether he offered Vladimir Putin the assistance of the Armenian Air Force, Sargsyan answered evasively: “In any case, there has always been political support.”
