YEREVAN. –  New players may appear in Karabakh conflict in a year or two, and they may be not only states but also nations, not having statehood, as well as religious minorities,  ambassador, Modus Vivendi Center Director and political scientist  Ara Papyan expressed said during “A Year After the April war” discussion on Wednesday.

He noted that not only military factors affect the development of the Karabakh conflict settlement. In particular, oil prices fell, and there is also tension between ethnic groups grows in Azerbaijan.

According to him, the Azerbaijani government uses national minorities as a shield against Armenians, sending them to a front line, and, actually, sacrificing them, thereby contributing to strengthening of hatred towards Armenians. The changes taking place in Azerbaijan complicate the possibility of achieving peace through negotiations.

At the same time, according to him, the April events of 2016, in particular, mutilation of bodies, and the fact that there were no prisoners of war have led to the fact that Armenia has a very high level of distrust towards Azerbaijan.

As Ara Papyan noted, many of his companions who were supporters of mutual concessions, have changed their position.
