Armenian secret service agent, 38-year-old Maj. Garik Marutyan accused of treason for working for Azerbaijan, has been sentenced in Armenia to 14 years in prison, NEWS.am reports. 

Marutyan wasfound guilty on Criminal Code Article 299, part 1, by the Court of First Instance of Armenian Armavir region. The trial session was held behind closed doors. Garik Marutyan did not accept his guilt.

According to the case, Marutyan head intelligence of various military units of Armenian Defense Ministry in 1997-2014. After leaving the military service in 2015, he met online on Odnoklassniki Russian social network with a user under “Vazgen Kirakosyan” Armenian nickname. Since then, Marutyan was in the scope of Azerbaijani intelligence service. Using social network messages, he transferred to the Azerbaijani side information that could be used to discredit Armenia and Armenian Armed Forces. In return, Marutyan received $700 and a bicycle.
