Pro-western forces got defeated in the parliamentary elections of Armenia, director of the International Institute of Newest States, Alexey Martinov, said at Moscow-Yerevan telebridge Monday.
“The result of the elections is on the one hand the unconditional support for the ruling force and serious support for Tsarukyan bloc, whose leader, Gagik Tsarukyan, formed serious opposition against [President] Serzh Sargsyan several years ago. He is known as a politician and businessmen in Russia. It can be said that the development vector of Armenia—the Eurasian integration through such projects as the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO)—is confirmed by the overwhelming majority of the Armenian people and will correspondingly continue,” Martinov said.
In his words, it is important to note the failure of pro-Western forces. “Lots of scandals and fuss took place and money was spent, including by the US Embassy and western organizations. The Armenian people expressed historical wisdom and chose the vector of development, which was advanced by the ruling party for the last several years,” the political analyst noted.
