YEREVAN. – The President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, on Friday received Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, President of the Goethe-Institut, which is the largest cultural institution in Germany.

Welcoming the guest, the President expressed the hope that Lehmann’s visit to Armenia will open up a new chapter in Armenian-German cultural cooperation and thereby help strengthen state relations between the two countries, the press office of the President informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Noting that this year Armenia and Germany are marking the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Sargsyan said Armenian-German relationship has been on the rise over the course of these years. In Sargsyan’s view, this is a good basis for launching advanced teaching of German language in Armenia, and which, in turn, will contribute to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

In this context, the interlocutors discussed the prospects for establishing the Goethe Institut Center in Armenia, in parallel to the German Language Center which already operates in the country since 2009. President Serzh Sargsyan expressed readiness to provide state support for this project, should the parties reach a respective agreement.

Klaus-Dieter Lehmann, for his part, assured that the Goethe Institut will do its utmost to boost cooperation with Armenia.
