YEREVAN. – Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian met with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and crisis in Georgia Herbert Salber on Thursday.
Nalbandian briefed the EU official on the situation in connection with the flagrant violation of the ceasefire by Baku on the contact line between the Artsakh and Azerbaijani Armed Forces on July 4.
The Armenian FM once again stressed the need to implement the agreements reached during the summits in Vienna and St. Petersburg that were aimed at creating conditions to advance the negotiation process and overcome the consequences of the situation created by gross violations of international humanitarian law as a result of Azerbaijani aggression in April 2016, the target of which was the civilian population.
According to him, while impeding the implementation of the agreements on the contrary to the calls of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs and the world community, Baku continues to increase the propaganda of hatred and hostility, and organize provocations, which resulted in the loss of four Karabakh servicemen last month.
The EU Special Representative expressed deep concern over the situation and stressed the principled position of the EU about exclusively peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict. He noted that the EU unconditionally supports the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs. The diplomat noted the importance of implementing the agreements reached in Vienna and St. Petersburg.
Herbert Salber said that he is completing his mission as EU Special Representative, noting that he will continue to closely monitor developments in the South Caucasus.
