Close relations between Ankara and Moscow lead to progress in resolution of the Karabakh conflict, Turkish President Abdullah Gul said in an interview with Reuters.

President Gul stated that Turkey jointly with Russia plays major role in attempts to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding that he had discussed the issue with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev at the OSCE summit in Astana.

According to him, although there is no breakthrough at the moment, certain steps are taken. There is a silent and determined diplomacy, he stressed.

“I sincerely believe that the de facto situation in the Caucasus is not in the interest of any one of us,” Gul said.
