For about ten years the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities have been inactive in getting involved in the negotiations over Nagorno-Karabakh, which has had a negative impact on the peace process Manvel Sargsyan, Head of the Center for strategic and National Research, told NEWS.am. “The country is opener now, which is very important. Rehabilitation work is under way, and economic growth has been registered. Delegations of developed countries visit Nagorno-Karabakh, which is of high importance for the country’s international reputation. The world feels free in dealing with Nagorno-Karabakh. The public is also playing its role in governing the country,” he said.

However, despite the achievements, the negotiations over Nagorno-Karabakh have not registered any progress. Although international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh has gained currency over recent years, the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has not so far been able to get its will internationally recognized.

“Although western countries are stressing they do not recognize the referendum and elections in Nagorno-Karabakh, there is considerable difference. The indifference shown to Nagorno-Karabakh in 1990 is receding because Nagorno-Karabakh has been making steps toward development as an independent state,” Sargsyan said.
