December 14, at an international conference on Genocide, particularly on the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire, the Israeli scholar Israel Chain called for forming an association of peoples that survived genocide. The association is supposed to defend the peoples’ interests.

“We, Armenians - yes, it is not a slip of the tongue - we, Armenians, have done very much for the international recognition of the Genocide despite the disgraceful fact that my own country, Israel, will not recognize the Armenian Genocide, and my second homeland, U.S., has not so far done it despite the promises by all its Presidents – with the only exception,” the scholar said.

He called for further struggle for the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide though the world is now so indifferent to people’s fates. He mentioned one instance, when, in 2006, the Israeli minister of education stated that “Genocide” and “Holocaust” are synonyms, but the Israeli Government was in a hurry to state it was the minister’s personal opinion.
