EC maintains negotiations with Azerbaijan on gas supplies for Nabucco. European Commission’s Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs said in Baku that EC is interested in gas supplies from Azerbaijan and that negotiations on the issue are in progress.

EC officials consider Azeri gas a key source to fill Nabucco. The pipeline joining Central Asia with Europe is deemed to be laid by 2014. Piebalgs underlined that all political issues on the pipeline construction have been resolved and remaining are commercial ones, AFP informs.

On July 13, representatives of Turkey, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, and Romania signed an intergovernmental agreement on Nabucco gas pipeline construction. The project provides for gas supplies from Caspian basin to Europe surpassing Russia.
