At a Sept. 18 event hosted by Carnegie Europe in Brussels, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen called for “the U.S., Russia and NATO to link their missile defense systems against potential new nuclear threats from Asia and the Middle East, saying that the old foes must forget their lingering Cold War animosity,” AP informs.

Representatives from Iran and “six-power unity” mediators on Iran nuclear program (Russia, Germany, China, USA, France and Great Britain) will hold a meeting on October 1. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) informed Sept. 17 it has no evidence of Iran’s nuclear weapon program.

It is noteworthy that Rasmussen calls Moscow to join the anti-Iran nuclear program policy after Washington has shelved a Bush-era plan for an Eastern European missile defense shield in Poland and Czech Republic. Experts deem that U.S. having annihilated a major irritant in relations with Russia is expecting a return step from the latter.
