Armenia was affected by the global economic crisis mainly because of the slowdown in the Russian Federation, the source of over 75% of remittances to Armenia and more than 70% of foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country, Asian Development Bank (ADB) report reads. Measured in terms of real GDP growth, Armenia has been the worst-affected country in the region, with 9.9% GDP decrease expected in the country. A similar situation is in Georgia (4% GDP decrease) and in Kazakhstan (1%). In the first half of this year, Russian remittances to Armenia showed a 25.5% decrease. The ADB also scaled down its GDP forecast for Azerbaijan – 3% instead of the previous 8%. According to the report, 1% GDP growth is expected in Kyrgyzstan, 0.5% in Tajikistan and 8% in Turkmenistan. The forecast for Uzbekistan remained unchanged – 7%.
