Recently monument to Armenian-Catalonian friendship was erected in Barcelona, Spanish mass media reports. Armenian khatchkar (traditional cross-bearing carved memorial stele) was set up near Royal Palace, symbolizing the friendship of Armenian and Catalonian nations.

The event was organized by Armenia’s Friends NGO, headed by RA citizen David Hambartsumyan. The participants were given Sasoun Zmrukhtyan’s blessing, the Vicar and Patriarch’s Delegate of the Armenian Apostolic Church to Spain and Portugal.

Catalonian Parliament MPs, personal representative of Barcelona Mayor, Armenian Consul Mher Badalyan and about 500 Armenians were present at the ceremony.
