Encouragement of competition creates strong basis for developing economies, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan stated at the meeting with Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTD) Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi on March 21.
Serzh Sargsyan attached significance to the UNCTD’s assistance to the economies of developing countries, as well as of the efforts of the organization towards making them more competitive and sustainable.
The Armenian President made a high appraisal of the assistance of the UN Conference on Trade and Development and Mr. Panitchpakdi’s personal efforts to the economy of Armenia.
The Secretary General of UNCTAD noted that his visit to Armenia was particularly pleasant for two reasons: he’s been the Director-General of World Trade Organization (WTO) when Armenia joined the organization and since the accession our country has accomplished considerable amount of work regarding its obligations. Supachai Panitchpakdi said that the second reason was the commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Armenia’s State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition and participation in the international conference in Yerevan, the presidential press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
