It’s clear that the prosecutors suffered a crushing defeat. The authorities don’t have any argument to accuse President Kocharyan or any legal argument to continue with a new invented episode and keep him detained. This is what Head of the Office of the second President of Armenia Victor Soghomonyan told journalists today.

“We must record the fact this is a political order to keep Kocharyan in prison in any way possible. It’s already clear that after all these unlawful actions, this case will go on as long as these authorities remain in politics and so long as they are able to advance the case by force,” he declared.

The head of the Office of the second President of Armenia declared that the reason for the current situation is that the case is phony and is based on the well-known concept paper of first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan, who said that evil forces brought tanks against him and that he had won the presidential elections, but the evil forces didn’t let him become President of Armenia.

Soghomonyan noted that the State has suffered many blows because of this case. “The unlawful persecution of the former president will have consequences. We read the statement by the Venice Commission and the statement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We have yet to see the verdicts of the European Court of Human Rights, and I have no doubt that they will be in Kocharyan’s favor.”
