Iraq and the Arab Gulf states do not need foreign forces to ensure security in the Gulf, as this will only increase regional tensions, AP reported referring to Mohammad al-Hakim, Iraqi Foreign Minister’s tweet.

Al-Hakim's tweet was a response to the efforts of the US administration to create a naval security mission under the command of the United States in the Strait of Hormuz. The United States wants the international coalition to control and accompany commercial vessels.

The UK said last week it would join the mission; no other allies of the United States have so far committed themselves.

Al-Hakim noted that Israel’s participation in such a mission is unacceptable.
