Death toll in powerful earthquakes in Sumatra Island, Indonesia reached 529 people under the current data, Interfax informs referring to Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs.

According to the source, the number of victims may increase, as the rescuers have not yet launched operations in some regions seriously affected by the earth shocks.

As reported earlier, on Oct.1 morning another strong earthquake rocked the island. On September 30, 2009 at 5:16 p.m. local time 7.6 point quake struck Sumatra Island after which local authorities issued a tsunami warning.
