The municipalities’ powers have unofficially been entrusted to the executive bodies in Azerbaijan, and the forthcoming local elections cannot be considered decisive, Rauf Arifoghlu, Editor-in-Chef of the opposition newspaper Yeni Musavat, told Trend News.

This caused one more crisis within the ranks of Azerbaijan’s Opposition, and the forces are not seriously preparing for municipal elections. Arifoghlu believes the parties that have formed an alliance for several months need to revise their relations. According to him, the existing forces cannot influence the political processes in the country.

Arifoghlu said he has no intention to establish a political organization now. “In any case I have my political interests and image. It is quite possible I will present my goals and interests in the future,” the journalist said.

The local elections are to be held in Azerbaijan on December 23.
