Frankly, the reasons for their coming to my house are still unclear; more than a dozen people had come, my relatives recognized Hakob Simidyan and Hayk Sargsyan. Now independent MP Vardan Atabekyan, who left the ruling My Step faction of Armenia’s legislature, said this in a conversation with Armenian News-NEWS.am on Friday.

"I was not at home, the purpose as to why they came was not comprehensible; I am trying to find out. I will find out the purpose of coming to my house at that time and with so many people, as I am no inaccessible person. When the alarm of my house went off, I was looking at the recordings on the phone, I noticed that 5 cars were approaching my house, and I considered it strange, I applied to the law enforcement.

Since there were acquaintances among them, they talked and left, at least there are other elements there that I gave them time to smooth it out, if they do not smooth it, I will definitely apply to the law enforcement because it is inadmissible for me. I was not present at that incident, it was my brother, now I cannot open brackets now. If they don’t resolve the issue within the time given to them, I will publish the recording," explained Vardan Atabekyan.

To note, Atabekyan had announced Thursday that he was leaving the My Step faction. On his own words, he, like the overwhelming majority of the people, had learned from the about the signed statement on Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), and he does not agree with the respective position of his then political team.

Vardan Atabekyan will now continue his lawmaking activities as an independent MP, and he will direct these activities to get out of the current situation with as few losses as possible and will be engaged in the solution of the problems of the Artsakh Armenians. "As I had already mentioned, I was not aware of any issue that is not a subject of discussion in my domain, and a decision has already been made, I do not think I should share responsibility for such an issue. No matter how much they explain to me that it is right, I personally have a problem, I am a native of Artsakh, my father's grave is there, he is a participant in the first Artsakh war, it is difficult for me to make it perceptible to me even after hearing the reasons," added the MP.

Referring to the statement of the My Step faction, Vardan Atabekyan noted that he was familiar with the content of the text, but did not agree with it. "I saw the text, but I did not share it on my [Facebook] page because I did not agree that something similar should be done. As the internal political situation is tense, I do not want to express my position in such a way that anyone will try to use it. No matter what, the political team has acted and shares responsibility; time will show how much it shares and how justified that disseminated decision is. I just would not want my personal position to give in, for someone to use it, or for it to be seen that I tried to hit my political team in this situation; at least, that is my position. If I do not want to share responsibility, I do not want to create a problem; this is more correct because regardless of everything, I was from that political team, and the political team that did something. Good or bad? It will be determined, the people will give the answer, regardless of everything. There are consequences left after that, the deportation of the Artsakh Armenians, and so on. I am ready to include my responsibility for its consequences and deal with that issue; I consider it fair on my part," he emphasized.

To the question what is the way out of the current situation, does he share the opinion that the Prime Minister should resign, and whether there should be early parliamentary elections in the future, Vardan Atabekyan responded: "Regardless of everything, I would like the opinion of the real people to be heard because there are political forces that can use it or not. I would like the people to judge with a clear head and make the right choice, regardless of what forces are standing outside, regardless of what my political team has done. It would be very good if in case of any change, someone is again elected by the people. It seems to me that the Prime Minister himself will see what is right, the process will develop, what the people have to say will become more perceptible. Now I think the people are still in shock, and they are slowly starting to come out of that shock and will formulate their demands clearly. If they do, I do not think the prime minister will try to resist it."

"Once the people come out of the shock, the Prime Minister is obliged to listen to the people, to wait, to prolong so that he can again be guided by the people's opinion because at the moment there may be different opinions, and it may be a little difficult to express whether it is the people's opinion or of some political forces that want to use it to their advantage,” Vardan Atabekyan concluded.
