Apple has taken over about 100 companies in the past six years, said Apple CEO Tim Cook.

This happens at the company every three to four weeks, he said during Apple's annual shareholders' meeting on Tuesday, BBC reported.

Apple recently generated the highest quarterly revenue ever - $ 111.4 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2021.

Cook told the shareholders' meeting that the acquisitions are mainly aimed at acquiring technology and talent.

Apple's biggest acquisition in a decade was the $ 3 billion purchase of Beats Electronics, a headphone maker founded by rapper and producer Dr Dre.

Another major purchase was music recognition software company Shazam, for $ 400 million in 2018.
