Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan welcomed the signing of Armenia-Turkey Protocols, calling this even an important step. He stated that official Ankara stands for establishment of good neighborly relations with Armenia.

Premier gave to understand that Turkey will not open the border till Karabakh conflict is settled, BBC reports. We wish to settle the problems with Armenia through negotiations, that will create broad opportunities for the cooperation between two nations in all spheres, Erdogan said at the press conference.

October 10, RA President Serzh Sargsayn addressed Armenian nation, underlining that relations with Turkey are not related to Karabakh conflict settlement. OSCE MG Co-Chairs early made the similar statement.

Yesterday Armenian and Turkish Foreign Ministers Edward Nalbandyan and Ahmet Davutoglu signed the Armenia-Turkey Protocols in Zurich. The documents should be ratified by both countries’ Parliaments. As NEWS.am already reported signing ceremony took place in tensed atmosphere. Turkish delegation tried to include a number of thesis related to Karabakh conflict in their final statement. According to the position of official Yerevan and international mediators, Karabakh peace process and Armenia-Turkey rapprochement are not linked. After the protests of Armenian side and interference of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the problem was solved. In particular, both sides decided not to make final statements and left immediately after signing ceremony.
