On May 11, RA Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian participated in the 120th session of the CoE Committee of Ministers in Strasbourg. High-level delegations from 47 CE member states, five observer countries and international organizations attended the session.

Issues related to different fields of CE activities, including reforms of the Council of Europe, CE-EU cooperation, boosting the efficiency of European Court of Human Rights, were on the agenda.

Edward Nalbandian delivered a speech at the session, RA Foreign Office press service informed NEWS.am.

Nalbandian expressed Armenia’s support for the reforms, stressing Armenia will be actively involved in the organization’s activities. In this context, he informed the participants of the preparations for the Forum for the Future of Democracy under the auspices of the Council of Europe.

Armenian FM also held a number of bilateral meetings. After arriving in Strasburg, he headed to the CE Headquarters and met CE Secretary General Thorbjorn Jagland. The officials discussed the prospects of the CE reforms, regional issues, Armenia-Turkey normalization process and efforts to settle the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Nalbandian and his Slovenian counterpart Samuel Zbogar discussed the expansion of bilateral relations, enlargement of legal underpinnings and intensification of cultural ties.

The diplomats addressed the preparations for the Slovenian President’s visit to Armenia. According to Slovenian FM, the President’s visit will provide a good opportunity to enhance bilateral economic and political relations, as a large group of businessmen will accompany him. The sides also exchanged views on the South Caucasian issues.

After completing his visit to Strasbourg, RA Foreign Minister left for Brussels.
