“We consider EU agencies’ activities inefficient in the current situation. We have severely criticized the EU, as well as its missions that observed the elections in Armenia. We consider the missions’ activities senseless,” Levon Zurabyan, Coordinator of the Armenian National Congress (ANC), stated following his meeting with PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu. The ANC members Vladimir Karapetyan and Avetis Avagyan participated in the meeting. To substantiate their criticism, the ANC representatives referred to PACE Resolution #1677, which concerns Armenia. “Although the resolution was approved a year ago, nothing has changed since,” Zurabyan said. He also reported the sides discussed the issue of resuming the activities of the PACE subcommittee on Nagorno-Karabakh.

“We object to any discussions of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem by the European Union. We are sure that the negotiations conducted by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs are the best option, and any attempt to organize alternative talks or discussions will only produce a destructive result,” Zurabyan told NEWS.am.

He pointed out that the problem of political prisoners was discussed at the meeting, and the PACE President promised to hand the ANC’s messages over to the relevant agencies.

The ANC representatives asked the PACE President why he had not visited the Memorial to the Armenian Genocide victims. He answered it is not part of the official ceremony. He explained that none of his predecessors followed such a protocol, and he made his own choice, Zurabyan said.

The PACE President also held a meeting with RA President Serzh Sargsyan.
