May 13, RA Ombudsman Armen Harutyunyan received a delegation headed by PACE President Mevlut Cavusoglu, and the sides discussed issues of human rights protection in the region.

Cavusoglu noted that it is his third visit to PACE states as parliamentary assembly President (earlier he visited Moldova and Azerbaijan), the RA Ombudsman’s press office informed NEWS.am. The PACE President stressed the Ombudsman’s critical role in Armenia meeting its commitments to the Council of Europe. He pointed out implementation of proposals contained in a report by the CE anti-torture committee, reforms of the election and judicial systems.

In his turn, Armen Harutyunyan presented his 2009 report as well as a special report on legal proceedings. Speaking of protection of human rights, the RA Ombudsman underlined the importance of creating an atmosphere of tolerance and dialogue inside country and in the entire region.

Mevlut Cavusoglu stated that the planned constitutional reforms provide for the institute of Ombudsman in Turkey within next few months.

Armen Harutyunyan expressed his readiness to develop further cooperation and render assistance.
