EU can help to make Armenia’s economy more competitive and free, Rolf Behnke, the Head of the EU High Level Advisory Group to Armenia told RFE/RL Armenian service.

He noted that, obviously, economy having a competitive system develops faster and better than that controlled by a few people.

Last October, World Bank Managing Director Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala stated that the Armenian economy was oligopolistic and RA Premier Tigran Sargsyan shared the opinion.

EU also assists trade development that is one of the measures for economic recovery, Behnke said. On the other hand, it is a complex issue, as after the USSR’s collapse, Armenia underwent transformation and is currently at the reorganization stage.
