Although an agreement on direct air traffic between Armenia and the U.S. signed back in 2008 and came into effect last June, the issue is still unsettled.

In 2009, Head of the RA Civil Aviation Department Artyom Movsisyan stated that the air traffic would be resumed, but no regular flights have since been made.

Nelly Cherchinyan, Press Secretary of the Civil Aviation Department, informed NEWS.am that the relevant government agencies have completed their work. “Now it is Armavia that is to submit application to the U.S. government for operation of a new flight,” Cherchinyan said.

Armavia Press Secretary Nana Avetisova stated that the company is ready to conduct flights to New York and Los Angeles. “We have done everything for our part and are ready to operate flights any moment,” she said. Armavia has already appealed to U.S. agencies. Avetisova stressed that the flight is possibly not conducted due to repair works at the Zvartnots International Airport.
